Interested in engaging online learners within their communities? Would you like to foster deep learning? Looking for ways to provide community services at your organization? E-service learning as a pedagogy or project provides learners with an avenue for applying concepts in real-world situations, as they apply course content and provide a service for their partnering government or non-profit agency as a volunteer. Through reflection of the service-learning experience, learners delve into deep, meaningful knowledge creation. This make for a comprehensive learning experience for all involved. This presentation will introduce e-service learning pedagogy as a benefit to your organization, your learners, and your service-learning partners. An examining of the possible benefits and challenges will offer insight into how to structure the experience of service-learning for enhanced learner engagement and success. You will have the opportunity to outline your own e-service learning course or project during this short interactive session.
At the end of the presentation, participants will:
- Recognize the benefits of e-service learning. - Distinguish the crucial components of service learning. - Resolve the challenges of implementing e-service learning. - Plan an e-service learning project or professional development opportunity.
